That's right, I bought a 5 lb spiral cut ham for 1.99 per pound last Sunday.
WOW! It's hard to count how many delicious meals we've created out of one ham. First, I roasted it. With some carrots and potatoes, a great supper for four. Then at least a few big juicy sandwiches with mayo, lettuce and tomato on wheat bread. Then, when it looked like it was all over..... I made split pea soup with the giant bone and a bag of dry split peas. At least 4 more bowls of amazing taste and nutrition at the very end. Thanks little piggy!

The 99 Cent Gourmet!
I go to the 99 cent store on Sunday and Wednesday morning. That's when the truck delivers the new food and goods to my location in NoHo. They open just before 8am and that's when you'll see the best of their new products. Get there early, the good stuff goes quickly. I found items there for .99 cents that are selling at other stores for $5 - $8.
How to feed a family of four on 125.00 per week!
On Tuesday I get the grocery store circulars. Seems I have to go to at least 4 stores to make the best use of the special discounts. I also clip coupons but only for items I usually buy anyway. If there's something special that my children want all the time, I go directly to the product website and see if there's a coupon available. I never buy a product I don't normally use just to get a discount.
I can get distracted if I'm in a crowd of people so I shop on Sunday mornings and start at 7:00am. Some stores have the best produce at the lowest prices. Some have sales on meat. I keep a basic tally at each store I visit. As I go, I complete each meal with vegetables and starch. Even get desserts for at least 3 meals per week. We always have plenty of food and never feel like we're going without anything.
PLAN AHEAD!
I try to plan 4 or 5 full dinners per week.
At least one seafood, one chicken one beef and one pork.
Two days a week it's hamburgers or pizza....
occasionally Chinese.
